Rabbits for Adoption

Jones aka Jonesy

Basic Stats:
Age: 11-12 months
Sex: Female (Spayed/Fixed)

Jones was surrendered to RRP by a lady whose parents did not approve of her keeping a rabbit.  Based on the scarce information we can gather, Jones was owned by another person who also cannot afford to keep her.  She stayed at her second "home" for 3 days before her situation became critical.  A fellow rabbit owner reached out to RRP to ask for help.  I immediately got in touch with the current care taker and went ahead with transportation arrangements.  By 130pm the same day, Jones was under the care of RRP.

First Adoption

Jones, along with another rabbit, Verticoli, were adopted in September of this year.  However, their adopter decided after 3 weeks that she is not able to handle the rabbits and that it is in their best interest that Coli and Jones return in our care.  It was devastating to both rabbits.  They did seem to love where they were living previously so it was a shock when the decision to return them was made.  In any case, they are both back living in our Ortigas site and they are doing well.

Personality

Jones is an independent and willful rabbit.  She got comfortable within a couple of days of landing at our doorstep.  She did seem a bit apprehensive at first but once she got used to her surroundings, she started to come out of her shell and just enjoy the perks of having been rescued.  She is likely to thrive as a solo pet or with a male (neutered) companion.  Jones does not have a fear of dogs, whether their barks or their presence.  She will do well in an environment where she can see people and feel involved in their daily lives.

Just like most rabbits, Jones does not like being picked up.  However, she loves getting pets and scratches on her head, especially behind the ears.

Health

All our rabbits are given a clean bill of health before they are adopted out to families. Since Jones did not have any medical history available when she was rescued, I opted to administer a preventive dose of Selamectin Plus (this tackles mites, mange, and other types of ectoparasites).  Jones was returned to us after getting infested with mites at his adoptive home.  He has received 2 more courses of Selamectin (Revolution). As of November 10, he tests negative for mites.  NOTE: IF HER NEXT ADOPTIVE FAMILY WOULD LIKE A DOCUMENT THAT SAYS SHE IS NEGATIVE FOR MITES, THEY CAN PAY FOR THE TESTING PRIOR TO ADOPTION.  SCRAPE TEST is the procedure done by vets to check whether there are ectoparasites living on the rabbit's fur or skin.

Diet

Jones is on the same diet as everyBun at RRP.  She alternates between FJ's Soy-Free Grain-Free Pellets for Adult Bunnies and Sherwood Free-Choice Pellets.  She consumes somewhere between 4-6 kg of hay per month, revolving around Rabbit Hole Hay Soft and Medium Timothy Hay, RHH Soft and Coarse Orchard Hay,

Ideal Home

Jones is likely to thrive with a family who wants only one rabbit or already has a neutered male rabbit.  It may take a bit of time to get her to trust you, but once you are a trusted hoomin, she will love you like no other animal ever has.  Jonesy is one of those rescued rabbits that I would gladly keep with us if we had the space and unlimited resources.  For now, we provide her a safe, clean, and loving environment.

Frank

Basic Stats:
Age: 5 months
Sex: Male (Intact/un-neutered)

Background

Frank was surrendered to us by a backyard breeder who is inundated by so many rabbits due to irresponsible breeder practices.  NOTE: This breeder ended up with 100+ rabbits, many of which are either sick or riddled with mange, mites and other ectoparasites.

Health

Frank was with another rabbit (Tortellini) and both of them had apparent health issues from the start.  Frank had snuffles (diagnosed and treated within the first week of their rescue) and has fully recovered after being put on antibiotics for 7 days.  He has gotten a clean bill of health and is now ready for his furever home.

Personality

Frank is a rabbit with an independent streak.  He tolerates humans and is willing to receive affection in small increments. If you are looking for a cuddly rabbit, Frank may not be a good match for you.  He does like to play with toys like rabbit-safe balls (made of hay or dried grass).  He has also taken a liking to running through the tunnels and hidey houses we have in the rabbit play area.  The upside is that you can be sure that he can entertain himself in case you are away for hours at a time and he only has toys to keep him occupied.

Diet

Frank eats hay very well but he is picky with his pellets.  He prefers to eat one brand and will turn his nose up at all the others.  He eats a lot of hay, which varies daily, from Timothy hay to Orchard grass, Mountain grass, meadow hay, botanical hay, etc.

Ideal Family

Frank’s ideal home would be a family that only intends to have one rabbit.  He is only beginning to come out of his shell, which is mostly due to not having been provided with enough socialization prior to getting rescued.  Another viable option for him is a family that already has a spayed female rabbit.   Frank will be ready for neutering in about 2-3 months.  As far as I can tell both his testicles have already descended, but he has to be at least 1.6kg to undergo surgery.  Applicants with a neutered male may also be considered, although it should be noted that bonding TWO MALES will likely take a longer time than a female-male combo. As of this writing, I have already received and screened a few applicants but have not approved anyone as of yet.

Rocky Rocket

Basic Stats:

Age: 14-16 months
Sex: Male (Intact/Un-neutered)

Background

Rocket first came within our purview when his owner messaged RRP about surrendering him.  Due to our full-capacity status since March 2024, the first recourse was to put him under remote monitoring.  This process entails taking over his care in terms of providing food supply, supplementation and providing slightly better accommodations (cage liners, toys, treats, etc).  He was living outside in a case next to a dog (also in a cage).  The owner said that he is not allowed inside the house as the owner's mum was not allowing Rocket inside due to his "smell"

NOTE: RABBITS ARE PRODIGIOUS SELF GROOMERS.  HEALTHY RABBITS THAT ARE FED THE PROPER FOOD AND PROVIDED WITH A CLEAN CAGE OR XPEN WON'T SMELL BAD AT ALL.  THEIR POOP AND PEE WILL ONLY EMIT A FOUL ODOUR IF THEY ARE NOT EATING THE RIGHT STUFF, WHICH WAS A CASE WITH ROCKET.

Health

Rocket came to us with a whole host of problems.  He was underweight, tested positive of ectoparasites (mites), and he had some sore hocks.  He has received treatment for the mites and sore hocks (Revolution Plus- Selamectin Topical and Chlorhexidine respectively) and as of October 20, 2024, both has been resolved.

His weight issue is currently being tacked using a high-calorie diet comprised of Sherwood Adult Complete pellets and a variety of hay (timothy, orchard, meadow, mountaingrass, and the occasional oat and barley hay).

Temperament and Personality

Rocky Rocket has an independent streak.  This is hardly surprising since he was mostly cut-off from human beings the entire time he was living with his previous family.  His companion was a dog who sat in a cage about a couple of feet from Rocket's cage.  The upside is that he can be left by himself in a safe Xpen/cage for long stretches provided he is provided with enough mental stimulation i.e. toys, healthy chews, and a lot of hay and water.  He loves to get pets, especially on his head and cheeks.  I've come to know Rocket in the few months he's been with us.  He does come across as apprehensive at first but he receives affection well and is able to reciprocate.  He makes for a great companion for those who are looking for a pet they can spoil and hang out with during those quiet moments when you just want to appreciate life with another living being.

Ideal Home

Rocket will likely flourish if housed with a family or individual who is able to keep up with his diet and provide him with plenty of space to run around in.  Since he's been caged most of his life, he desperately needs an environment that is conducive for play and exploration.  His housing requirement is an X-pen, at least 3.5 feet tall, 4 feet wide and 6 feet long.  Having him semi-free roaming around the house (this means being out most of the day and penned/caged during hoomin's bedtime (usually 8 hours or so).

Dana

Basic Stats:

Age: 2 years
Sex: Female (unspayed)

Background

Dana's hoomin surrendered her to RRP in the hopes of finding her a good home as she is moving overseas permanently. By all accounts, Dana is a well-loved and cared-for rabbit. She is personable and mostly receptive to affection.  She loves getting scratches and massage all over face, especially the chin. She is a voracious hay eater, which is a good thing since she is a lop. Most brachycephalic rabbit breeds are prone to dental issues especially if they are not consuming a lot of hay. This is not a problem with Dana as she eats most kinds of hay.

Health

Dana's last vet check was on 9th June, 2023 at Pet Royals Pampanga.  She is due for her annual check-up, which we will cover prior to adoption. There are no visible signs or any indication that she has any health issues.

Personality

Dana is an active rabbit. She was almost immediately comfortable upon getting out of her carrier on her first day with us. She loves to explore and is curious about her surroundings. Since she is not yet spayed, we make it a point not to leave her alone with other un-neutered/unspayed rabbits. She is allowed a total of 4 hours free roaming time in the play area and another hour of roaming the living room, while supervised. She would make a perfect solo pet or a mate for a neutered male rabbit.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Part of the adoption agreement is the pledge to have her spayed within 6 months of getting adopted.  She is already 2 years old and most reproductive cancers in rabbits become more prevalent once they pass 3 years of age.

Verticoli aka Coli

Basic Stats

Age: 2 years old (may be younger or slightly older.  Her original owners did not know how old she was at the time she was surrendered to RRP)

Sex: Female (SPAYED)

Background and First Adoption

Verticoli, along with another rabbit, Jones were adopted in September of this year.

Personality

Coli is quite fond of humans and she tolerates most other animals, i.e. dogs, cats, other rabbits.  If paired with a neutered male, she is likely to be the dominant rabbit who takes charge but is in no way aggressive.  She makes for a perfect companion as she loves to lounge around with you all day.  She likes getting head rubs, chin scratches, and any manner of petting you can dispense.  She loves people and people love her.

Conversely, for those who work outside of their home at regular 9-5 jobs, Coli can be left alone in a large XXXL pen with toys and enough hay and water.  She is as low-maintenance as you can get with a rabbit, in the sense that she has never gotten sick the entire time she was with us or during the 3 weeks she was with her adoptive family.
